From the ocean to the boardroom

The same discipline that got Mike across the Atlantic and up mountains like Kilimanjaro and Elbrus now underpins every coaching relationship he leads.

Why does any of this matter to you? Because the situations that test a leader most — a high-stakes decision, a team under pressure, a plan falling apart mid-execution — are exactly the situations I've spent my life training for, first at sea and on mountains, now as a coach. If you're navigating a promotion, a difficult team dynamic, or simply want to lead with more clarity and resilience, this is the discipline I bring to work with you.

My journey so far

Hi, I'm Mike Jones — a little about me, and why I chose to train as a coach and what to expect if you work with me to reach new heights and make transformational change in your life.

My journey in personal development began at a young age, when as a scout I was exposed to the world of challenge and adventure. That developed into a goal-setting mindset and a drive to achieve. I took this passion for adventure to the West of Ireland when I attended college to complete a BA in Outdoor Education, which became the foundation for my pathway into personal development and coaching — though it's been a winding road, so try to keep up.

Following an incredible journey through college, I was afforded the opportunity to put my newfound knowledge into practice through my work at the University of Limerick. I quickly put my skills into action designing and delivering corporate team-building programmes for major multinationals and brands such as Dell and Waterford Crystal. I was also thrown into high-performance sport, working with some of the country's leading coaches to help prepare their teams for success — including senior inter-county hurling, camogie and football, as well as provincial and national senior and underage rugby teams.

As I continued my journey of personal self-discovery, I took the bold move to follow my passion for kayaking and resigned from my role with UL to start my own business, which I aptly named "My Next Adventure". Since then, my adventures have taken me all over the world and taught me a vast amount about how to overcome adversity, bounce back from failure, and above all achieve success beyond my wildest dreams. As a leader, I've conducted complex search-and-rescue missions in extreme conditions and under immense pressure; as a guide, I've led people through some of the world's most inhospitable environments — including expeditions on Kilimanjaro and Elbrus — to help them achieve their dreams. It was through that success as a leader and guide that I found my passion for coaching, and set up Mike Jones Coaching.

If you are seeking change and want a coach to help guide you on the journey, please get in touch — I would be delighted to support you on your next life adventure.

The adventures, in brief

"I had to compete just to earn my seat, and I was put in the pit — the last place I wanted to be. It turned out to be the heart of all the action, and we won line honours. A reminder that the role you resist is often the one that stretches you most."

The adventures aren't all oceans and 8,000m peaks, either — plenty of it happens closer to home:
